Jocelyn Claire Thomas, soprano | piano | flute

Emma Cowell, soprano | piano | music historian

Come be transported to the sitting rooms of the Regency era with music for voice, piano, and flute! Jocelyn Claire Thomas and Emma Cowell will perform music for voice, piano, and flute from Jane Austen’s own personal sheet music collection, plus other favorites from the Regency parlor.

The program includes folk song arrangements, Regency-era popular songs, and excerpts from the most popular opera and theater music of the era. The composers include famous names like Mozart and Beethoven, as well as Friedrich von Flotow, Stephen Storace (a forerunner of Gilbert and Sullivan in English operetta), and 18th century celebrities like Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. Music historian Emma Cowell will share stories about music in Jane Austen’s time, as she and Jocelyn Claire Thomas perform vocal duets and solos, as well as piano pieces and music for flute.
